New fantasy 15mm reviews

It's been a while since I have had much time for painting, but I finally got around to doing up some more miniatures that I have bought.  I have 3 different manufacturers for this time.  I bought a pack of rangers from Black Raven Foundry (Available through Old Glory 15s), some Amazons that were originally made for Thane's Games and is now available through Lone Gunman Games.  Also from Lone Gunman I picked up the pack of adventurers that they produced.

Now on to the pics!

Black Raven Foundry - Rangers.

I have to say that this pack was a pleasant surprise.  For starters, there is a very good variety of figures in the package, and they are very well sculpted.  In this first picture are all (or at least most) of the variants.  There are a mix of figs armed with bows and hand weapons.  Most of the hand weapons are short swords, though there are a couple of figs armed with 2 handed swords.

The downside of these figs is one that is common with most of the BRF figs.  They are a little large for the scale.  In the second picture, there are some other manufacturers.  The first fig is from Legio Heroica, the second is one of the Lone Gunman figs, the third is a BRF fig.  4th is a Falcon or Gladiator (can't remember which), and the last one is an Old Glory fig.  As you can see in the picture, the figure is almost a head taller than the others.  One of the reasons for that is because they have a very thick base, but they are also just larger figures.  If you use them as Rangers in Lord of The Rings, you could say that they are Dunedain, and that would make them work.  The figure is close enough that they don't stand out too much when on the game table.

Lone Gunman Games - Amazons

The Lone Gunman Games Amazons are some beautifully sculpted figures.  They have a great deal of details and a lot of character.  If I remember right, they were originally sculpted by Sandra Garrity who is an excellent miniature sculpter.  As you can tell from the second picture, they mix very well with most of the manufacturers that I have.

The Amazons come with tigers for mounts, but I wanted to use horses instead.  I will use the tigers for other things.

Lone Gunman Games - Adventurers

These are good figures, but probably not the best that I have seen.  Some of the faces are a little odd, but for 15mm figures, they have a great deal of detail and character.  The cool thing is that the elf makes a great Legolas, and the wizard is a shoe in for Gandalf.  My LOTR characters are getting closer!

The figures mix very well with other companies as you can see in the picture.  There is also a dwarf and a half orc barbarian that are not shown.  The half orc barbarian is a beautiful figure, and in my opinion, the best of the group.  The dwarf is a good sculpt, but doesn't quite fit with my image, so I haven't painted it yet.

I have to apologize for the quality of my pictures and painting.  For the most part, these pictures do not do justice to the figures!

  1. Nice job. It's very helpful to see the size comparison pics. I like those Ranger a lot. Do you know how the BRF figures compare in price with other 15mm fantasy minis?

  2. BRF are pretty inexpensive. I think that I paid $9.00 for a pack of 24 (I think list is $12.00)
